The FSUPV Team, the racing team of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), has shone brightly in Formula Student Spain 2025, the most important international competition in the field of high-performance engineering, created in 1980 in the United States and launched in Europe in 1998.
91´«Ã½ team, part of the UPV Design Factory, came second in a competition that has brought together more than 1,300 students from 14 countries in 60 teams for its 15th edition, with a record participation of 26 Spanish universities.
During the competition, the FSUPV Team won in 4 categories - Engineering Design, Skippad, Acceleration and Autocross - and also beat in the Class Classic with the FSUPV Alumni Team, a category for teams made up of former participants competing with single-seaters designed for previous editions.
Formula Student is a long-standing international competition that challenges engineering students to design, build and compete with their own single-seater car. For a year, students work outside lectures to bring the project to life and compete in one of the three categories: internal combustion, electric or autonomous.
The tests, which evaluate the speed, stability, reliability and energy efficiency of the vehicle, are divided into static (presentation of the business plan, cost and technical design) and dynamic (Skyppad, Acceleration, Autocross, Endurance and Efficiency).
The event, closely followed by major brands such as Ferrari, Porsche, Ford or Tesla to detect and attract young talent, has led, for instance, to one of the FSUPV team members, Iván Balmaña, being signed by Aston Martin, the current team of two-time Fórmula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso.
